Steamed Parupu Vadacurry Recipe

Ingredients:



For Masala Vadai:

½ Cup Channa Dal (Soaked for 1 Hour)
1 Green Chilli Chopped
1 Tsp Chilli Powder
½ Tsp Garam Masala
½ Tsp Salt
1 Garlic pods chopped
½ Inch Ginger chopped
5-6 Curry Leaves chopped
¼ Tsp Turmeric powder

For the Curry:

1 Onion sliced
½ Tsp Cumin seeds
1 Cinnamon stick
4 Cloves
1 Green chilli finely chopped
2 Garlic clopves chopped
½ Inch Ginger chopped
2 Tomatoes finely chopped
1 Tbsp Chilli Powder
½ Tsp Garam Masala
¼ Tsp Coriander powder
¼ Tsp Turmeric Powder
2 Tbsp Oil
Salt as required
1 Cup Water

Method:

For Masala Vadai:

     1.       Grind the soaked channa dal adding very little or no water into paste.



     2.       To the ground paste, add all the ingredients given under masala vadai and mix well.


     3.       Apply oil to the idli pan and then place the flattened vadai dough on it. Steam the dough for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.



For the Curry:

    1.       Heat oil on medium flame, add cumin seeds, cinnamon stick and cloves. Let it fry for a minute.


    2.       Now add the sliced onion, chopped garlic, ginger and green chillies. Cook until the onion turns    translucent.


    3.       To the onion, add the chopped tomatoes, 1 tbsp chilli powder, ½ tsp garam masala, ¼ tsp coriander   powder, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and salt.Cook until oil leaves at the sides of the pan.



    4.       Once the tomatoes are cooked, add  1 cup of water and let it boil for 5 minutes.


    5.       By now, the vadai would be ready. Cut the vadai into desired size and add to the boiling curry.



    6.       Simmer the heat and let the vadai cook in the curry for 5 – 10 minutes or until the gravy thickens.


    7.       Serve the hot vadai curry with Idli, chappathi and dosas.
