Yummy Homemade Parota Recipe

Yummy Homemade  Parota Recipe:
===========================

Prep Time - 2 Hours
Cook Time - 20 minutes
Serves - 2
Cuisine - South Indian

Parota is a South Indian delicacy originally from Kerala. For us Parota has always been a food to relish in a restaurant on a lazy Sunday evening. There are a different varieties of parota available, but the one mentioned in my blog is very basic.

I would suggest to have parota probably once a week and not as an every day meal as white flour is generally not good for the health when consumed frequently. This is a time consuming dish, but it is worth every minute spent.

Ingredients:

2 Cups Maida / All purpose flour
¼ Cup Milk
2 Tbsp Water
1 Tsp Salt or as required
6 Tbsp Oil and more for cooking

Method:
1.       In a mixing bowl, add ¼ cup milk, 2 tbsp water, salt, 2 cups of maida.

2.       Mix everything well until combined. Then add 3 tbsp of oil, 1 tbsp at a time and mix well until the dough is not sticky.

3.       The dough should be less thicker than the one made for chapathi.
4.       Cover the dough and let it rest for minimum of 30 minutes (preferably 1 hour) before rolling.

5.       After 1 hour, make medium sized balls out of the dough. Before rolling the parota add a tsp of oil on the rolling plate and flatten the dough until it is translucent using a rolling pin. Do not use flour while flattening.

6.       Then roll the dough as shown in the image and roll the dough inwards, add a tsp of oil and flatten again until twice the thickness of the chapathi.

7.       Heat the skillet, add 1 tsp oil and add the rolled dough and cook until it is brown on either sides. Keep adding oil after tossing every time.

8.       Serve hot with vegetable kurma or salna.
